The 5 Biggest Surprises After Transforming My Body
Losing weight has a number of obvious and not-so-obvious benefits. Among the obvious benefits? You look and feel better. A not-so-obvious benefit? You lose the visceral fat that's causing your body chronic inflammation, which leads to disease.
From personal experience, here are 5 pleasant surprises you may also experience after shedding weight:
1. Once I understood why certain foods were bad for me, it was easy to quit eating junk!
- Just knowing vaguely, “you shouldn’t eat pizza,” to give an example, wasn’t enough for me to quit eating it.
- Reading why canned tomatoes and the refined carbs in the dough were so bad for me, though, made the decision very simple.
- Now and then if I’m out with friends or family, though, and I'll eat and enjoy the pizza. I always know that if I get it 80% right and fast daily, I’ll be alright.
2. The food doesn’t cost more! (Assuming you’re smart about it.)
- A bag of broccoli that’ll last you a week will cost you five bucks at the grocery store.
- Then think of all the money you’ll save on sugary drinks and snacks, chips, bread, desserts, and other junk you’ve become attached to but actually harms your body.
- When you let the unhealthy stuff go, your grocery bill plummets.
- It’s all about the seasoning. Acquaint yourself with Extra Virgin Olive oil, for sautéing, Avocado Oil for roasting (due to its high smoke point), Pepper, Turmeric (Have you heard how incredibly good for you Turmeric is?), Cinnamon (same as Turmeric!), and Pink Himalayan Sea Salt (learn whyTable Salt is bad news).
- Cook your own meals whenever possible, and find efficiencies however possible. I tend to prep, cut, and roast my veggies (for amazing flavor) in batches and reheat them for a few days.
- The only problem? I put all this effort into making my food, and my kids eat it all! You think I’m kidding? I’m not! Roasted Cauliflower and Brussels Sprouts are big hits in our house. If I don’t want anybody eating my veggies, I just make Broccoli. 😉
- Eating breakfast seems strange to me now, wastes valuable morning time, and leaves me feeling bloated.
- Digesting food is a lot of work for your body, and when you’re constantly feeding it, it’s putting your body’s energy toward digestion instead of diverting it for you to heal, think, and do.
- Skipping breakfast liberates your mind and body while enabling your body to burn fat for fuel.
5. Travel is so much easier!
- Not lugging the extra "baggage" around means I can get around easier, in tighter spaces, experiencing fewer aches and pains due to extra weight I'm no longer carrying around.
